What is the unit limit for Phase 2 at UC Berkeley? ›

Continuing students

In Phase 1, you can enroll in up to 13.5 units. During Phase 2, you can enroll in up to 17.5 units.

Undergraduates: A course load of 15 units per semester is considered a normal undergraduate course load, and you are expected to enroll in at least 15 units. Graduate Students: A course load of 12 units per semester is considered a normal, full-time graduate course load.

Passed grades may account for no more than one third of the total units completed at UC Berkeley, Fall Program for First Semester (FPF), UC Education Abroad Program (UCEAP), or UC Berkeley Washington Program (UCDC) toward the 120 overall minimum unit requirement.

UC Berkeley has a very detailed, extensive list of required high school coursework for all applicants. They also have specific and well-outlined high school coursework requirements. High school students must have taken 15 high school courses that lasted a full academic year and received a minimum of a C grade.

You usually need to take at least 12 credit hours per semester to qualify as a full-time college student. Twelve credit hours usually translates to four courses worth three credits a piece. Some students take more than 12 credit hours a semester.

GPA Requirements

Many schools mention a minimum GPA requirement, but a 3.89 GPA is the least grade to apply for without being rejected. UC Berkeley demands a 3.89 GPA, which means you must be the topper of your class and far above average. Also, most of your transcripts should be A's.

Is Berkeley in the Ivy League? ›

UC Berkeley is not an Ivy League school. There are only eight Ivy League schools: Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton, University of Pennsylvania, and Yale.

For every 100 applicants, only 11 are admitted. This means the school is extremely selective. Meeting their GPA requirements and SAT/ACT requirements is very important to getting past their first round of filters and proving your academic preparation.

Limits on transfer credits

UC will only accept 70 semester (105 quarter) units of credit for lower-division coursework completed at any non-UC schools.

During Pass Two, students can register and waitlist for up to 19 units.

Berkeley Summer Sessions highly recommends a maximum of 10 units per session during the summer term. Please note each course is a semester's worth (16 weeks) of course material presented within a shorter period.
